The Collector’s Favorite (Taylor Wendt)

He put her on a pedestal -
a tiny one; she shrank to fit.
He imagined her a personality
with no wants
so that she could sit
and wait
and be happy to forget
who she was.
She contemplates the cracking post,
dreading him replacing it,
because he will take her down
and look
and notice
the need to ask questions.
